The Danish Government announced today that it’s considering lowering the private income tax rate from its current average of 55.2% down to 53%, and Danes are speaking out rather loudly to their friends about it.

“No one is going so far as to protest, but I can assure you, nobody I know is happy about it,” said Freya Hanson a local marketing rep. “I’m considering posting a couple strongly worded tweets on the topic myself.”

Lars Neilson, a fifty-five year old truck driver told this reporter, “This is not good. Do they think I need an extra 500 or a 1,000 euros in my pocket?! It’s just stupid. They need to keep the money and spend it wisely as they have been. Frankly this kind of talk will make me reassess who I vote for next election.”

“This is borderline insanity. The last time the government lowered taxes was after the financial crisis in 2009 when they dropped from 62% to 55% — a lot of people were not smiling. Very close to considering speaking with raised voices, no one did, but a LOT of people were thinking about it,” Freya Hanson said. She then added, “If I wasn’t so damn happy all the time, I’d be very angry about this.”
