The Real Reason U.S. Skipped Davos

President Trump cancelled the U.S. Delegation’s trip to the economic summit in Davos, Switzerland on the pretext of saving money during the government shutdown. However, through a series of leaks over the weekend, it was learned that the real reason Trump cancelled the trip is that he doesn’t own a resort in the area.
Seeing no way that he could feasibly work a side hustle by having the delegation stay at one of his resorts, President Trump decided to cancel the trip. He apparently floated the idea of having them stay at one of his resorts in Florida and then fly a daily commute to Davos via Air Force 1, but an aide pointed out the poor optics of such a plan during the shutdown. Trump reluctantly agreed.
“Hey, I gotta make ends meet just like everyone else, and it’s tough out there. Tough. I know exactly how my base feels — that extra few hundred thousand in resort billables really would’ve come in handy right now.”
Fredric Couteu, a Swiss banker and one of the lead organizers of the summit said, “I would like to say that President Trump and the U.S. delegation will be greatly missed, but alas it’s not true, so I won’t.”
